Why Google Has Closed Dictionary Service? Alternative Way to Use it

Google Dictionary is the service in news that has been closed now. You can not access this service  by visiting the Google dictionary page link. Instead, it will show you “Google Dictionary is no longer available.”

Google Dictionary Not Available

On the way of reshaping the web search model, Google has closed this service. Now, Google directs you to use Google web search or Google Translate if you want to search specific word’s meaning.

There is a reason of removing that. Making a separate page for meanings is unnecessary if you can integrate the same as tool into web search results. Now, that same feature is embedded in the left sidebar of Google’s web search. Type a word and click on the ‘Dictionary’ link on the left sidebar under ‘More Search Tools’ and you will find the same results of previous dictionary.

Google Web Dictionary Search

The popularly used chrome extension for Google dictionary will continue to work in the same way or it will be stopped working that is still not clear. If it becomes inactive, more people would feel uneasy in opening a new tab each time to look for a word.

  1. I really disappointed when they closed the service. But now, I’m more relaxed. It’s like offering the same service but in a different way. But the only thing which really makes me sad is that you no longer can star words. All my starred words are also gone.
